It’s unusual for me to call a brilliant man silly, but in this case, his philosophy is silly.
Our radio broadcasts, if they even exit the heliosphere, haven’t gone far. By the time they reach a civilization that has the capability to reach Earth, it will be thousands of years into the future, giving us plenty of time to evolve our technologies.
My assumption is that any civilizations with space faring technology capable of taking them thousands of light years already knows about Earth and has visited already. After all, if you could travel thousands of light years, wouldn’t you check out all the nearby planets? But since there doesn’t seem to be any real record of alien visits, I’m going to assume that there are no nearby space-faring aliens.
That means it will be thousands, if not millions of years before our radio broadcasts are *detected*, leaving plenty of time to evolve our technologies.
